One common trigger of PMS is hormonal imbalance. Before you go ‘yeah I already know that’, what you may not know is that it is not the period but the ovulation that is the main event in the menstrual cycle because it turns on progesterone, the hormone which helps make periods easier. We shall not delve too deeply into the science, but know that a healthy ovulation forms the corpus luteum, the ovarian tissue that makes progesterone. Widely known as the hormone that supports pregnancy, progesterone is also highly beneficial in preventing heavy periods, reducing bloatedness and is anti-inflammatory in nature (bye bye cramps!). Low progesterone usually leads to irregular menstrual cycles, menstrual cramps and/or exacerbated period symptoms like acne and fatigue.

The corpus luteum is formed from what’s left of an egg that has been released from the ovary. Naturally, healthy egg cells mean healthy corpus luteum. The development process of an egg cell takes about 90 days, so it is essential that we improve the health of the egg cells (and consequently the corpus luteum) and not compromise it at any point during the 90 days.
